HORMA

Horma in Arabic means 'intimate', 'sacrilegious' and 'wife.'

​

It is an interdisciplinary investigation of our experience with intimacy and collusion in relationships – a long Flamenco skirt acting as a powerful archetype for our interactions and movement vocabulary exploration.

​

A con-fusion of dance techniques (Flamenco and Contemporary dance) and the layering of electronic and acoustic sounds and video create a choreography with a theatrical sensibility.

​

Horma’s dramaturgy is a three-act ritual, in which a man is born out of a woman and her long Flamenco skirt and negotiates their relationship – mother-son, couple, or two sides of the same person? - challenging assumptions about femininity, masculinity, identity and relationships. Suggesting rather than telling a story, the choreography creates powerful images which aim at creating a sensorial and emotional experience for the audience
